Information for Mentor/Cooperating Teachers
To help fulfill its goal of producing highly qualified teachers, the UTeach program relies on the expertise of many excellent teachers in the Austin Independent School District.
 
Throughout the UTeach program, most of the professional development courses require the placement of our students in an active classroom. In the first two courses, STEP 1 and STEP 2, this experience is intended not only to provide the students with practical teaching experience, but also the opportunity to evaluate the teaching profession.
 
As students progress through the program they will move from elementary classrooms through middle school, with their experience progressing up to high school.
 
In their final semester, every attempt is made to place the student in a setting resembling the grade level and area they hope to teach.
 
With over 400 students in multiple UTeach courses, the program relies very heavily on the partnerships it has created with our cooperating teachers.

Paperwork Requirements for Cooperating Teachers
State rules require that we verify tax payer information on everyone The University pays. To assist with this purpose, every one must complete a Payee Identification Form and return it with a copy of the current drivers license or social security card.
 
The form used by The University to pay for professional services is the Authorization for Professional Services. Each mentor teacher should be provided with a completed APS form for signature. The form will be provided by a UTeach Faculty member, or for the sake of convenience, it could be mailed or faxed. You are required to return this form with your signature.
 
Each course has different requirements that must be fulfilled before payment is released. Your University Faculty member can help you determine what those requirements will be. Generally once any requirements have been met and all the necessary paperwork has been completed, a check will be sent within two to four weeks.
